Meeting Her Excellency Vicki Treadell CMG MVO, UK High Commissioner to Australia
The team got to play a very special match at the Junction Oval between the Afghanistan Womens Cricket XI & the Cricket Without Borders XI during the Ashes played in Melbourne. Her Excellency Vicki Treadell CMG MVO, UK High Commissioner to Australia was touring Melbourne and attended the Ashes match held there. So of course the team got the privilege of hearing from, and meeting personally (as pictured), this incredible woman.
During this event Mel McLaughlin facilitated a discussion between extraordinary leaders who spoke about the ‘Until every girl can play’ campaign. Each spoke powerfully about growing participation, the broad appeal of women’s sports and the work still to be done to achieve equality. Reinforcing the same points through her lived experience, Nahida Sapan from the Afghan Women’s XI shared just what their team’s historic first match had earlier in the day had meant to the Afghan players, families and community.
All in all this was a once in a lifetime experience for the women in the team and yet another platform for them to share their story but also meet inspirational leaders both on and off the field. And they looked super fly while they did it…..look at the style on these ladies.
